What will therapy be like?
We’ll start by scheduling a free 15-minute video call or in-person meeting to discuss what’s bringing you to therapy and any questions you have. You can schedule a consultation call directly with me via SimplePractice, or by reaching out through the contact form or email. Near the end of our call, if we decide to move forward, we’ll cover logistics like payment and scheduling needs, and find time for an intake session.
The first few sessions are for us to get to know each other and for you to decide if I’m someone you want to continue working with. We’ll pick a consistent day and time to meet each week. After a few sessions, I’ll offer ideas about what I think is going on and how we can work on it together, keeping your goals in mind. If your needs fall outside my expertise, I’ll gladly provide a referral.
Importantly, you might feel ambivalent about therapy, have questions about the process, or notice feelings that would typically seem “rude” or off-limits to talk about. I encourage you to bring these up. Some of the most important and sometimes challenging work focuses on your experience in therapy and the thoughts and feelings that arise about our time together.
While each person and each session call for something a bit different, I generally give you space to start however you’d like and encourage you to speak about whatever comes to mind. I’vve been described as attuned, engaged, curious, and playful. We’ll dive deep into your history, but also pay close attention to what’s happening in the “here and now” for you, and between us. This way of working gives us space to understand how your history shapes your present, while also providing a unique window into your current process and, consequently, more immediate opportunities to work towards change.
