Child & Adolescent Therapy
Adolescence can be intense and confusing for both teens and those who love them. You might see your child feeling more anxious, withdrawn, overwhelmed, or self-critical. Sometimes the signs are clear, like changes in mood, lower grades, trouble with friends, or evidence of self-harm. Other times, your teen may seem “fine” on the outside, but it feels harder to connect with them.
Teens often don’t yet have the words to describe what they’re experiencing. Therapy offers a space where they can begin to make sense of their emotions, relationships, and inner world in a way that feels supportive and manageable.
I offer in-person and virtual therapy in NYC for pre-teens and teens (ages 12-18), and take a special interest in working with neurodivergent teens navigating anxiety, depression, identity questions, eating disorders and disordered eating, and relationship challenges.
Training & Background
I’ve completed advanced training in relational psychoanalytic therapy, specifically with children and adolescents, from the William Alanson White Institute. I’ve also completed training in trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT), a cognitive behavioral therapy specifically geared towards children and adolescents with PTSD. I’ve worked with teens ages 12-18 since the start of my career and have spent years under the guidance of therapists specializing in helping children, adolescents, and their families.
My Approach
I approach adolescent therapy with the understanding that trust takes time. Two key aspects of this work are balancing privacy and safety, and supporting a teen’s sense of agency in the process.
Because parents are involved, it can take time for teens to feel confident that therapy is a space where they can be honest without feeling judged or managed. Part of my role is to create that sense of safety while maintaining appropriate communication with caregivers. I also support teens in developing a sense of ownership over the process, whether they are seeking therapy themselves or coming at a parent’s urging. I meet them where they are and help them make sense of why they’re here, what therapy feels like, and what they want from it.
I also believe family involvement can be an important part of adolescent therapy, particularly for younger teens. This may include periodic parent check-ins, support with communication, and guidance on how to support your teen outside of sessions. At the same time, I prioritize protecting the integrity of the therapeutic relationship. Together, we establish a balance between involvement and privacy at the start of treatment and adjust it as needed.
Logistics
I typically meet with people 1-3x weekly in person, online, or in an agreed-upon hybrid format. Individual sessions are $260 for 45 minutes. Once your child and I have an established provider-patient relationship, I offer free weekly 15 minute parent check-ins if desired. Parent sessions and family sessions are both $260 for 45 minutes. I can either provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement or submit the out-of-network claims on your behalf.
When I’m able, I offer sliding scale slots based on financial need - if cost feels prohibitive, please reach out so we can discuss a fee that is doable for you.
